Twelve students at Damascus Middle School represented their grade levels in the school-wide Scripp's Spelling contest. The school spelling bee took place on Thursday, January 19th. We would like to recognize the following students:
6th Grade: Kayla Masoumpanah, Parker Irby, Alex Wells, and Emily Roberts
7th Grade: Cammy Lund, Keeler Suran, Aidan Gierer, and Rachel Wheeler (absent)
8th Grade: Zachary Lustig, Casey Miller, Kyle Moller, and Marina Valean
The champion of the school-wide spelling bee was Zachary Lustig for the 2nd year in a row. Zachary will proceed to the regional spelling bee held at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, March 3rd. We congratulate Zachary on his win and we are very proud of all the students and their achievements.
FAMILY STUDY SKILLS NIGHT, Jan. 31, 6:30-8 p.m.
Do you struggle with getting your middle schooler’s to do their best work on their homework--or even to do it at all? Do you wish you could offer your outstanding students some options for interesting activities that enrich what they're doing in class? Do you know how to check your child's grades on-line--and what everything means when you do?
As we enter the last half of the school year, we want to offer families some resources and fresh ideas to help our adolescent learners succeed. Parents and caregivers are invited to Family Study Skills Night on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 6:30-8 p.m. at DMS. Sessions will include Winning the Homework Wars, Academic Enrichment Opportunities, and Using Parent Assist to Check Grades.
Information about local tutoring options will be available, refreshments will be served, Russian and Spanish translators will be on hand AND every parent who attends will receive one "free homework assignment" coupon to be used this trimester. (Teachers have discretion about which assignments qualify.)
It's free, it's fun and it's designed to help families support their kids. Join us!
